But wouldn't you be better off with a custom built desktop PC when on a budget? I don't know the prices for Alienware 17 laptops and won't google it as I might have a heart attack, but generally laptops are fairly expensive for the hardware inside + you can't upgrade them. My specs: i7 3770K, MSI MArshal B3 board , 16GB G.Skill 2400 CL9, two Radeon 290X reference cards of which one is disabled for better performance , and lot of other stuff not worth mentioning. Everything's water cooled in a custom loop so the 290Xs are not as loud as you would think . Power supply is a Corsair AX1200i and case 900D. Nice! Delidded? What cooling? What temps are you getting? I have a delidded 4790K shelved that almost hits 70°C at 1.25V 4.7GHz even with a decent water cooler on top of it. Intel really hates us overclockers.
My laptop is so old, that it will overload the servers if I post my specs! I got it around 4 years ago and at the time it was excellent but now it's getting very sluggish So I am saving up for a new computer which I will hopefully get within a few months and then I can play with all you Loonies!

They dont age well but when you get your new one maybe you could re install OS on your laptop and have the stream and chat on that so you dont have to alt-tab out to chat Families take up alot of time so a "turn key" machine (it arrives and works right out of the box) and doesn't take up much space when you aren't using it make more sense Sweet what brand of water blocks are you using? Are you going to try direct die cooling?
You can upgrade a laptop if you don't mind voiding your warranty. My Laptop new cost $2500 which is a lot BUT that was bought with some inheritance money. I didn't have time to research parts and build a custom PC as I was working on making my house baby safe/ready. Also a laptop takes up less space than my mammoth custom PC builds of the past.
Fair enough, time and space constraints are something I didn't think of. You can always pick up your notebook and go elsewhere, I can't even lift my computer without draining the water first... I'm using mostly Aquacomputer gear: a cuplex kryos HF for the CPU and two kryographics Hawaii cooler for the cards. Really like that company. I haven't tried on-die cooling for the CPU yet but it is something I have been thinking about. EKWB has a kit for getting the right spacing between socket and die. Should improve temps a lot. Second PC: Pentium G3258 "Anniversary Edition" @4.4GHz Gigabyte Z87-D3HP mainboard 8 GB of Kingston HyperX 1600 CL9 Radeon HD6950 Crucial M4 128 GB SSD Budget / old parts build, works fine for most games!
I'm the only one running a AMD CPU???? Man, unique here! CPU - Fx-9370 Eight Core, OC'D to 4.8 GPU: 2x 760 GTX OC'd, with a GTX 980 on the back burner! Water cooling, of course 3x 24' HP HD Monitors 16 GB 1677 RAM
Intel i5 3570k Asrock z77 extreme 4 powercolor 7870 Corsair vengeance 8gb HDD: 1x 80gb 10k rpm, 1x 250gb 10k rpm, 1tb 7.5k rpm Bought initially as a pc that i would add more stuf to later on (more ram, SSD, 2nd GFX card, OC) but i never got around to it. It's kinda getting old but its still running all the games i play at a decent FPS and gfx settings so.
